In addition, together with other Berlin cultural institutions, we call on you to participate in the joint action day #BerlinIstKultur on October 16, 2024. The action day and the signatories of the petition demand that Berlin’s politicians not implement the announced cuts.
Cutting culture is a financially and culturally misguided decision. The cuts would have a devastating effect on many institutions and artists and would do great damage to the image of the city of Berlin. Given that culture only makes up 2.5% of the city’s total budget, these cuts are disproportionate.
Please take part in this day of action and sign the petition, because the budget plan will be debated again in the plenary session of the House of Representatives on October 17.
