Jul 06 19:00 Concert Feast with Choir of Kreischende Weiber*
We grind the patriarchal narrative! The antiquity knew: a seed-hungry hystéra (= uterus) wanders in the body and bites itself in the brain. The “enlightened” medicine found by means of experiment: a nervous disorder. Melanie Schmidli + team clarify: After research on space, image and body, they now devote themselves to the sound of the nightmare “hysteria”. With a foley artist, they explore historical sounds of “hysterical” women* in order to make them heard: What did a contained will for freedom sound like? What does resistance to structural violence against femininity* sound like?
On four evenings the installation will be opened to the public: we will learn professional growling and roaring from a death metal singer, listen to the sounds of the working hystéra with a midwife and experience the potency of female* vocal power with a ninjutsu master. Finally, we invite you to the concert of the screaming women* with a festive banquet. Come and listen, ask questions, join in. Do not cry, but scream!
For some time already, the actress and director Melanie Schmidli has been dealing with the discourse of hysteria as a tool of social exclusion and oppression of women* in her working cycle Divina Hysterika. The complex artistic process takes place in changing formats and collaborations. Kreischende Weiber* is the second collaboration with dramaturg Almut Wedekind, freelance artist and scenographer Barbara Lenartz, and actress and assistant Saskia Mommertz in this context. For the first time, the team collaborates with foley artist Almut Schwacke.
